Foliage
The foliage series exhibits two contrasting techniques, both different from the conventional depiction of vegetation. One approach is basically a study in 3D art. By using different color combinations, the artist manages to alter the depth of field between leaves and branches and petals, thus creating the desired 3D effect.
The other depiction is just the opposite; it reduces the image to a two-dimensional format. The painting turns into a patchwork of different colors, obliterating micro details. Which of the two approaches is more pleasing is left to the beholder to decide!
A combination of the two styles is used by including wildlife in the foliage. It is a useful technique to liven up a painting. The big cats in particular are very photogenic when seen in their natural habitat and seem to project their aura onto the observer!
